Acid Reflux Solutions

Acid Reflux is an incredibly common condition, affecting more than 3 million Americans.  It is due to stomach acid rising up into the esophagus and causing irritation.
Over the counter and prescription acid-suppressive medications are the most common treatment for this condition.  While safe and helpful on a short-term basis, these medications, particularly the proton pump inhibitormedications used chronically are associated with increased risk of fracture, certain types of infections and nutrient deficiencies.
Most cases of acid reflux can be treated naturally without medication.  My aim is always to try to find the cause of the problem.  Common causes of this condition include hiatal hernia (a structural problem), insufficient stomach acid production, eating too close to bedtime, overeating, consumption of sodas, high fat meats and fried foods, alcohol and caffeine and smoking.
Lifestyle modification and specific dietary supplements to address the causes of reflux lead to rapid relief of this condition.
